Apple denies it plans to launch MVNOs in Europe and the US
Tech giant Apple is denying reports that it plans to offer its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service in Europe or the US.
“We have not discussed nor do we have any plans to launch an MVNO,” said an Apple spokeswoman in a statement.
Reports emerged in the last 24 hours, beginning with Business Insider, that Apple was planning to create an MVNO offering whereby an Apple SIM would select operators’ networks in terms of the best coverage at a given time.
It was reported that Apple was in talks with mobile operators in the US and Europe about a service similar to Google’s Project Fi and that technical trials were already underway in the US.

Last year, Apple launched the Apple SIM for the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 that allowed customers to switch between networks for the best coverage.
In related news, Apple is also reportedly testing a new voicemail service that uses Siri to answer calls and transcribe voicemail messages via Apple’s iCloud service.
While all of this indicates Apple is laying the groundwork for providing direct communications services to consumers, as usual, only Apple really knows.
