Meteor outage leaves thousands of customers without service

18 Feb 2016

If you’re having trouble with your Meteor service at the moment, it’s not just you, as the mobile network has confirmed that there is an outage in the Leinster region and it is scrambling to fix it.

Eir-owned Meteor announced that it was having difficulties on Twitter that is likely disrupting thousands of its customers, the majority of whom are based in the affected region.

According to the details released in a statement by the network, there was a “major fibre break” at its network in Passage East in Waterford last night (17 February) that has impacted mobile services, effectively rendering it useless, with Meteor saying mobile users may experience difficulties with top-ups, MMS services and data throughput.

The areas particularly affected by the outage are in the areas of Duncannon, Ballycullane, Campile, Duncormack, Fethard, Foulksmills and Wellington Bridge.

“Our teams have been working through the night to repair the fibre break,” the statement read.

“Repair efforts require a substantial level of work across multiple teams. We are doing everything possible to restore service to all impacted customers. We will provide further updates later today.”

So far, the only update available at the time of writing from Meteor is that the network is still experiencing disruptions.

As well as there being a considerable number of mobile users affected, Meteor also confirmed that 4,000 fixed-line customers are experiencing issues as a result of the major fibre break and said it is in the process of getting the network back to full connectivity, but has admitted there is no timeframe for when it will be fixed.
