Every so often, support.apple.com will issue helpful alerts or notices to its users. The latest is about ‘unsupported third-party digital media players’ that ‘claim’ they are able to sync.
In other words, Apple is reminding Palm that the Pre, as the only non-Apple device that doesn’t require third-party software to sync with iTunes, is not only unsupported and untested for this, but that a software update of iTunes could spell the end for its syncing functionality.
Syncing with iTunes, Apple said, is for iPods and iPhones only.
“Apple does not provide support for, or test for compatibility with, non-Apple digital media players and, because software changes over time, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with non-Apple digital media players,” stated the release.
