Eircom appoints new wholesale boss

26 Jan 2011

Eircom has appointed telecoms industry veteran Chris Hutchings to take up the role of managing director for wholesale after John McKeon departed the position in October for a future in the civil service.

Hutchings has extensive experience in the telecoms industry, having worked with NTL, BT and Arqiva.

His most recent role was as director of ventures and operations with Arqiva and prior to that he was director of business ventures and innovation with BT Wholesale.

Before joining BT he held a number of senior management roles with NTL.

“Chris brings a wealth of industry experience in wholesale telecommunications which will be invaluable for our organisation,” said Paul Donovan, Eircom’s CEO.

Hutchings joins Eircom at a pivotal time for broadband and next-generation networks in Ireland. While Ireland has certainly moved up the rankings for broadband penetration, the growing complexity of internet applications is creating demand for higher and higher bandwidth.

As well as this, to develop the next-generation networks that will be crucial to the economic future of the country, the telecoms industry in Ireland has yet to come up with a formula for working together on building the networks of the future.
