Eircom refunds €700,000 to customers hit by outages during storms

7 Apr 2015

Eircom has refunded 11,600 residential and wholesale customers to the tune of €700,000 as part of an out-of-court settlement with communications watchdog ComReg.

The refund is going to customers who suffered outages exceeding 10 working days between 20 December 2013 and 30 April 2014.

The outages occurred during a time when Ireland was lashed with severe storms and the network suffered storm damage nationwide.

The total value of the amounts refunded was €601,935 (inc VAT) for retail customers and €98,819 (inc VAT) for wholesale customers.

The refunds were applied to Eircom retail customers’ bills on or before 1 December 2014 and have been reflected on affected customers’ bills in December 2014 or January 2015 depending on the billing arrangements of each customer.

ComReg said that it expects wholesale operators that were refunded to in turn refund their retail customers.
