In a contract which will run for six to 10 years, Eircom has been chosen to help build the next generation infrastructure for the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) as part of the Network NI project.
Eircom will be providing the voice, video and data applications that will form this next-gen telecommunications infrastructure for NICS, and has formed partnerships with both Fukitsu and Cable & Wireless to deliver these services.
The next gen communications framework will be used to support government initiatives like Workplace 2010, Account NI, Records NI, HR Connect and NI Direct.
This contract will see Eircom providing services to 11 government departments throughout Northern Ireland, and the telco company estimates that up to 40 new jobs will be created as a direct result of this deal.
As part of the contract Eircom will service Network NI from its new service operations centre in Belfast that has been designed especially to meet its requirements.
Up to 15 highly skilled jobs will be created in areas of network engineering, project management and qualified service professionals with the establishment of Eircom’s own network operations centre in Belfast after the company pumped €5m into its business presence in the North earlier this year.
