ESB and English firm make deal on Ireland-UK cable

The Electricity Supply Board and Geo, an English company, have joined forces to oeprate a fibre-optic cable that links Ireland the UK beneath the sea.

The cable will target high-volume customers and is scheduled to go live in 2011. It runs from Clonshaugh in Dublin to Anglesea in Wales.

The ESB’s fibre network in Ireland will be linked to Geo’s 3,000-kilometre network in the United Kingdom.
