Facebook and Skype to join forces?

29 Sep 2010

Facebook and Skype are reportedly about to announce a wide ranging-partnership that will include integration of SMS, voice chat and Facebook Connect.

According to All Things Digital, sources have said that they are aiming to mesh communications and community more tightly together for its users across a wide range of media.

As a result, Facebook has apparently turned to Skype, which is at the top of internet telephone communications.

Skype has 560 million registered users, with 124 million people using it at least once a month. This will be boosted by Facebook’s 500 million strong userbase.

Users will reportedly be able to use SMS and call Facebook friends from Skype. Skype will now offer Facebook Connect.

Video chat will also be available using Facebook in Skype, which will be available in the next version of Skype.  This version’s beta should emerge in the next few weeks.
