Google supersizes search

11 Sep 2009

Facebook’s doing it, Google’s doing, even educated tweets do it. I’m talking simplification. Facebook has stripped its site down to the bare essentials with its Lite version and Google’s homepage now shows a supersized search box.

Google search is an even more obvious choice now that the search engine giant has made its search box, buttons and text much bigger on the home page.

“Although this is a very simple idea and an even simpler change, we’re excited about it, because it symbolises our focus on search and because it makes our clean, minimalist homepage even easier and more fun to use,” said Marissa Mayer, vice-president, Search Products & User Experience at Google.

While this is a small tweak, Google’s homepage has changed a lot over the past 11 years of its existence.
