Irish Facebook users hit 1.66m – women rule the roost

There are now 1.66m Irish people on Facebook, up from 1.5m in May, according to the latest statistics from Facebakers.com. This brings the penetration of Facebook in Ireland to 36.07pc.

In terms of the overall online population, 54.8pc of Irish internet users are on Facebook.

There are more Irish females on Facebook at 54pc, compared to the male population of 46pc, or 880,620 and 742,680 respectively.

Facebook age profiles

Twenty-five to 34-year-olds make up the largest age group on Facebook (33pc), followed by 18-24-year-olds (26pc). People aged 35 to 44 make up 17pc of Facebook’s Irish population followed by 13 to 15-year-olds (7pc), 16 to 17-year-olds (6pc), 55 to 64-year-olds (3pc) and people over 65 (2pc).
