Overheating BlackBerry Bold causes DoCoMo to halt sales

1 Mar 2009

Japan’s biggest mobile network player DoCoMo has halted sales of the popular BlackBerry Bold devices because of claims the handsets are prone to overheating.

It has been reported that the device overheats while in the process of recharging.

DoCoMo has sold 4,000 BlackBerry Bolds, and 30 users have reported the overheating.

NTT DoCoMo began selling the devices only last week in Japan.

BlackBerry maker RIM has stated that the issue has only been reported in Japan and that other users of the Bold device have not reported any problems.

The company has ruled out a battery problem as the root cause.
