Skype users are now gobbling up 2bn minutes per day connecting with each other over the VoIP service, Skype owner Microsoft has announced.

“(Two billion minutes is) enough time to travel to the moon and back over 225,000 times, walk around Earth more than 845 times or travel to Mars more than 5,400 times,” wrote Elisa Steele, the corporate vice-president who leads marketing for Skype, wrote on The Big Blog.

“Two billion minutes is a testament to our users, who are making Skype the everyday communications hub that brings people together,” Steele added.

“Whether making a voice or video call, sending an instant message, sharing a file or connecting with a group of friends, now more than ever before, Skype brings people together whenever they are apart.”
