Vodafone has launched the first Pay as You Go BlackBerry service for customers in Ireland.

Vodafone is celebrating by offering Pay as You Go BlackBerry smartphone customers instant messaging, social networking apps, internet and email for free until February 2011.

Vodafone is also offering a special switching price for the BlackBerry Curve 8520. It’s available from €149.99 for Pay as You Go customers who change to Vodafone.

The phone comes with dedicated media keys and has access to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), which allows both individual and group conversations for a familiar chat-style layout with unlimited characters.

It also lets users share their pin with other BBM users or use a barcode scanner to add people while on the go, to make adding friends easier.

"Vodafone’s launch of the Pay as You Go BlackBerry service from Vodafone Ireland is further evidence of our total commitment to meeting the changing needs and wants of our pay as you go customers,” said Stefano Gastaut, consumer director of Vodafone Ireland.
