What’s the buzz about hotspot provider Bitbuzz?

30 Oct 2008

Wireless hotspot provider Bitbuzz has reported that it has reached a total of 113,478 registered users at the end of its 2008 second quarter.

Deals announced with O2 and Travelodge Hotel Group in the second quarter have contributed significantly to the company’s strong growth.

The number of Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots across the country currently total 173.

“We are very satisfied with the growth revealed by figures for the second quarter following a pattern of continued growth year-on-year,” explained Shane Deasy, managing director of Bitbuzz.

“On the basis of activity during the current quarter, we are confident that this pattern will continue. Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots offer excellent value to mobile workers and access to reliable high-speed internet. The number of Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots is continually increasing to cover key business locations.”

In June this year, Bitbuzz and O2 announced a new deal to provide O2’s iPhone customers with free access to Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country, and only this week O2 launched the prepay iPhone, which is set to storm the Christmas market.

“We expect that the launch of the prepay iPhone from O2 will impact very positively on Wi-Fi usage,” Deasy added.

The deal with O2, which is for an initial duration of two years, covers the provision of Wi-Fi internet access at all Bitbuzz locations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

During the second quarter of 2008, Bitbuzz registered an average of nine logins per site per business day, with the level of usage peaking between 6pm and 7pm in the evening.
