ClearStream Technologies, a medical-device manufacturer, has completed a 50,000 sq-foot extension to its Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, facility, providing room for 200 new roles in the future.

Since its acquisition in 2011 by CR Bard, ClearStream has added 160 jobs to its Irish workforce, bringing its headcount to 410 people, with about 100 of these jobs added in the last four months, making ClearStream one of the biggest employers in the south-east of Ireland.

The completed expansion, which is expected to support growth through 2019, is expected to give the company the potential to accommodate as many as 200 new positions, based upon the company’s need.

ClearStream expects the additional capacity will allow it to build upon its current product portfolio and potentially add new products.

Speaking of the completed expansion of the plant, Pauline Oakes, director of operations at ClearStream, said, “This is an exciting time for us. We are extremely pleased to be opening this new extension to our facility.

“This investment represents a significant commitment by the company to the facility in Enniscorthy and to our workforce, who have been key to our success to date. It positions us to leverage potential growth opportunities in the future, which is very positive for us and for the south-east region.”

The IDA Ireland-backed project also received praise from its CEO, Martin Shanahan, who said it will be a boon to the region and to the life-sciences sector in Ireland.

“The sector is the most regionally spread throughout the country. This expansion by ClearStream is excellent news, enhancing the country’s reputation as a global hub for the sector.

“Strengthening the life sciences cluster in the south-east in this way gives the region added impetus for future growth. The company has been a substantial employer in the region and the potential to add further jobs is very welcome,” Shanahan added.
