Twitter reportedly set for layoffs ‘across all departments’

12 Oct 2015

Following Jack Dorsey’s recent rise to CEO, Twitter is rumoured to be planning layoffs all across its operations as early as this week.

The social media giant has gone through significant changes in the past two years, with acquisitions and aggressive hiring bringing its total workforce to well over 4,000 people worldwide.

But now Re/code, citing unnamed sources, says layoffs are in the offing. No number was given, but Kurt Wagner reported “it will likely affect most, if not all, departments”.

It is not clear just yet how that affects Twitter’s Dublin operation.

Twitter layoffs? But Dublin doing well

Last week, just days after Dorsey’s new role was announced, Twitter backed out of a major office expansion in San Francisco.

The concerns about growth not matching company expansion seem to be deep rooted, judging by today’s news, although it has been a different narrative this side of the Atlantic.

The Irish operation recently returned to profit and has expanded its workforce to 200 now, with numerous vacancies still to be filled.

It is even expanding its office space in the Irish capital, moving its Dublin offices around the corner from its current base to a new 85,000 sq ft premises that it is sub-letting from Hibernia REIT plc. It will pay close to €5m a year for the new office space.
