Google Ireland Ltd, the Dublin-registered company operating on behalf of the internet behemoth, increased its turnover from €17bn in 2013 to €18.3bn in 2014.

According to accounts filed by the company, Google Ireland paid €28.6m in corporation tax.

Google is now a subset of a new conglomerate known as Alphabet, led by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google’s new CEO is former Android chief Sundar Pichai. Last week, it announced the first Google results under Alphabet, reporting global revenues of $18.7bn and profits of $3.98bn.

Turnover at Google Ireland rose nearly 8pc last year to €18.3bn driven by a rise in advertising revenues from Google websites and Google Network Members’ websites.

Google Ireland made a profit of €167.9m from its Irish operations.

Last year the search giant said it spent more than €500m on capital assets. These included €79m to acquire two buildings on Barrow Street in Dublin as well as a further €73.9m on R&D.
