AIB limiting outside-EU ATM withdrawals

4 Mar 2011

AIB customers are now only able to withdraw €100 daily from ATMs while they are travelling outside the European Union.

The change, which came into effect on 18 February, was reportedly not communicated to customers, leaving some travellers without enough money on their trips.

AIB customers who tried to withdraw more than €100 from international ATMs were only notified they had exceeded their daily limit. Only when the customers contacted the bank in Ireland were they informed of the new limit, the Irish Times reported.

The withdrawal limit, which the bank has said is a temporary measure, has been put in place in an effort to clamp down on fraud. AIB has not indicated how long the limit would be in place.
