Wireless telecoms provider AirSpeed has completed a total transformation of Irish Distillers’ communications network in a contract worth €220,000.

Spirits and wines supplier Irish Distillers is the producer of Jameson whiskey. The operation has six sites across Ireland, including locations in Belfast, Cork and Dublin.

Transformation of the underlying network was designed and delivered by AirSpeed Telecom, with the development of a new 100Mbps multisite network across all sites with performance and QoS (quality of service) guarantees to support applications like VOIP, as well as the critical demands of the new data centre.

The IT team at Irish Distillers has played its part in the success of the brand by transforming the way technology supports the organisation through the adoption of a private cloud model which is delivering reduced costs, has strengthened IT security and has facilitated the roll out of new applications and services across the group.

Pressures on IT to be more dynamic

David Ryan, IT infrastructure manager at Irish Distillers, says the robust new infrastructure has positioned Irish Distillers to compete better in the marketplace.

“There are huge pressures on IT to be dynamic. What we really need from our service providers is reliability, quick response and value for money, and we’re getting all three from AirSpeed Telecom.”

Ryan said the deployment resulted in a bandwidth boost from 512Kbps to 100Mbps, which has resulted in reduced costs, better IT services levels, better resilience and increased reliability.

“The high-performance network we’ve put in for Irish Distillers is ideal to meet their requirements for secure, reliable and high-speed communications between their sites across the country,” explained Liam O’Kelly, managing director of AirSpeed Telecom.

“This allows Irish Distillers to continually drive greater efficiencies to stay competitive and at the forefront of their industry.”
