E-commerce titan Amazon is packing up and moving its Dublin development centre from Kilmainham to more space in Burlington Plaza on Burlington Road, Ballsbridge, by the middle of this year.
Amazon is to occupy three floors of the new premises, compromising a total of 69,000 sq ft that will accommodate 450 employees and have the capacity for future growth.
The first phase of the building’s development is to be finished in April, when more than 100 employees are expected to move into this new office. Remaining staff is expected to move to the new space by June.
Jeff Caselden, managing director of the Amazon development centre in Dublin, said the new premises will provide the company with the space it needs to continue to create jobs, offer employees attractive surroundings with great facilities, and provide a first-rate service to its customers.

Roles at the development centre, which opened in 2005, include support engineers, systems engineers, network engineers, software developers and technical managers.
The engineers and developers support the design and deployment of Amazon Web Services and Amazon websites.
The centre also hosts an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Support team that provides technical assistance to customers using applications like Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon CloudFront.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, said Amazon’s move to Ballsbridge is an indication of the company’s commitment to further grow its business presence in Ireland with the capacity to create further high quality jobs for the economy.
Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland, Ireland’s foreign investment agency, added that Amazon has found a dynamic talent pool in Ireland and its presence has helped enhance Dublin’s strong tech cluster.
“The additional space the company is taking in Dublin is a further vote of confidence in that cluster.”
