Bank of Ireland customers have been struggling to conduct banking transactions online, by telephone and at the bank’s ATMs because its computer system has gone down.

Branches are still open, albeit there may be "minor restrictions on cash withdrawals," said a spokesperson, who also described the system shut down as an "unforeseen temporary technical issue".

The bank is working to resolve the problem that has left tellers unable to access up-to-date balances on customers’ accounts.

ATMs are operating normally but with a restricted cash service for BoI cardholders, Bank of Ireland said, adding that some customers may be unable to conduct point-of-sale transactions but Bank of Ireland credit card transactions are unaffected.
