Dublin voice over internet protocol (VoIP) provider Blueface has introduced a new technology allowing Irish mobile users to make cheap local and international calls on their mobile phones.
The company has deployed software from a company called Fring that will also allow people to call the user on their specific Blueface mobile number at landline rates.
The mobile phone service utilises a data connection to make and receive calls. “Along with a Blueface account, only a compatible handset and a data package is required,” said Blueface’s Feargal Brady.
Fring is a free VoIP software for mobile phones that allows users to talk and use instant messaging (IM) via a phone’s internet connection. The IM system works with Skype, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN Messenger and Twitter.
To work, Fring needs a compatible handset and Symbian S60 or Windows Mobile operating system. However, it is understood that a client for all mobile phones will be released soon.
