One of Ireland’s longest standing e-commerce vendors Buy4Now has been acquired by a US online retailer MyWebGrocer for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2000 Sandyford-based Buy4NowBuy4now’s clients included Musgraves, Superquinn, Three, Roche Bros (USA), Arnotts, Woodies, Elverys and RTE, and it recently won the contract to develop Irish fashion retailer Pamela Scott’s online shopping site and a high-end site for The Carphone Warehouse.

Established initially as a consumer portal, in recent years Buy4Now invested significantly in developing multi-currency and multi-lingual platforms that provide seamless e-commerce services across many countries.

Vermont-headquartered and privately held MyWebGrocer was established in 1999 and manages digital solutions for more than 140 retailers nationally, representing more than 10,000 stores, and 200+ major consumer packaged goods brands.

MyWebGrocer has so far raised US$61m in venture capital and competes in the US with Peapod and Amazon.

“We are very excited about this new chapter in our growth and acceleration in our international expansion,” said Rich Tarrant, MyWebGrocer CEO.

“Our footprint already includes customers and partners in Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe. Buy4Now’s products and expertise will strengthen our global presence.”

Buy4Now will operate as a subsidiary of MyWebGrocer. The company’s talented team of 60 employees will remain based in Dublin, one of Europe’s top tech hubs.

“Our customers will benefit from access to MWG’s full suite of solutions,” said Michael Veale, CEO of Buy4Now.

“In Europe, we see a lot of demand for the planning tools and marketing services that make MWG the digital leader in the grocery industry. We are also eager to showcase our general merchandise capabilities to existing MWG clients.”
