Independent IT retail chain Cantec is rebranding itself as Click and is investing in a €3.5m expansion that will result in 100 jobs being created.

The company will create 100 jobs in 14 new stores nationwide over the next three years.

The first of these new stores was opened in Gorey last week.

In total, the rebranded Click chain will incorporate 20 stores around Ireland employing 170 people by 2010.

The company was set up in 1997 and has expanded every year since then and currently employs 70 staff in seven retail outlets in Navan, Athlone, Cavan, Carlow, Maynooth, Ashbourne and Gorey.

Each of the company’s existing stores will go through a complete refit to create a simpler and more enjoyable experience when shopping for computers, printers, digital cameras, MP3 players, software and games.

Speaking about the rebrand, the company’s founder Maurice Muldoon said: “We chose ‘Click.ie’ as our new brand name as it is simple and direct. As a retail brand it mirrors our company’s philosophy that technology should be simple, accessible and without barriers.

“Our customers know that when they walk into one of our stores, they can get all the information they need about our products in a straightforward manner without any over-complicated jargon,” Muldoon said.

“We offer the biggest brands and the best choice combined with an informed and approachable, friendly staff. Importantly however, we do this at a local level in stores that are accessible and convenient to our customers. Each store is situated in a highly prominent retail location within towns or in local shopping centres,” he added.
