Dropbox has appointed its very first CIO, former Mozilla VP of enterprise IT and security, Sylvie Veilleux.

Despite Dropbox being one of the largest cloud providers in the world, the company has just appointed its first chief information officer (CIO): Sylvie Veilleux.

Canadian native Veilleux has more than 20 years of experience as a technologist and corporate leader in many of Silicon Valley’s largest firms. She recently won the 2017 Distinguished Chief Information Technology Officer award from the California Diversity Council.

For nearly five years, Veilleux was Mozilla’s VP of enterprise IT and security, where she was responsible for the operations of Mozilla’s business technology, information security, data management, network and infrastructure services.

She worked as a senior manager of database management at Apple during the company’s surge to become a dominant power in the corporate world between 2001 and 2004.

She has also had a stint with Salesforce as its senior director of infrastructure engineering and operations.

Commitment to increasing diversity

In her new role, Veilleux will lead teams responsible for Dropbox’s technologies, and focus on how the company expands the scope and scale of its technical services for the coming decade.

Veilleux is also on the California Regional Advisory Board for NPower, a non-profit that provides free technical training, internships and placement for US military veterans and young adults from underserved communities.

“Throughout her career, Sylvie has demonstrated her commitment to increasing the diversity of the next generation of IT professionals,” Dropbox said.

“We’re excited to see her transform the ways we use technology to build great products and strengthen our business.”
