eBay director Thomas Tierney to give annual Ray Murphy Lecture in December

On 8 December, director of eBay Thomas J Tierney will be in Dublin to address an invited audience of leaders at the fourth annual Ray Murphy Lecture in the Lir Theatre at Grand Canal Quay, an event hosted by Philanthropy Ireland.

As well as his role on the board of the world’s largest online auction site, Tierney is chairman of The Bridgespan Group and co-author of the book Give Smart: Philanthropy that Gets Results.

Other speakers at the lecture include granddaughter of the late Tony Ryan, actress and RADA graduate Danielle Ryan, who will give the response to Tierney’s address on the night, as well as John R Healy, chairman of Philanthropy Ireland, and Frank Flannery, chairman of the Government’s Forum on Philanthropy.

Tierney (57) has served as a director of eBay since March 2003, and is also the founder of The Bridgespan Group, a non-profit consulting firm serving the non-profit sector. He has also served as its chairman of the board since late 1999.

Prior to founding Bridgespan, Tierney served as chief executive officer of Bain & Company, a consulting firm, from June 1992 to January 2000. A Harvard Business School graduate, Tierney is also co-author of Aligning the Stars, a book about organisation and strategy.
