Eircom’s O’Connell begins legal proceedings following departure

9 Apr 2009

Eircom’s director of strategy and regulation Peter O’Connell has departed the company and initiated a High Court action for damages in relation to “contractual issues”.

According to the Irish Times, O’Connell (pictured), who had been brought into Eircom following its takeover by the Australian investment company Babcock & Brown, declined to discuss the reasons for his action.

Eircom staff were informed of O’Connell’s departure in a note from Cathal Magee, the acting chief executive of the company.

“Peter O’Connell has agreed to step down from his position as director of strategy and regulation of Eircom today. Peter, whose contract expires on May 31st, 2009, is returning to Australia and we wish him well,” the note said.
