Esat BT completes €400k college deal

Esat BT has completed a €400,000 deal with the National College of Ireland (NCI) to install a data local area network (LAN) and internet protocol (IP) solution incorporating primary rate voice connectivity following a competitive tendering process.

The data LAN and IP network, according to Esat BT, represents one of the largest and most sophisticated converged data and voice solutions Ireland has ever seen. The installation project, which was managed by Esat BT to rigorous deadlines, lets the NCI future-proof the network and introduce advanced, integrated voice/data applications in the future.

NCI’s president, professor Joyce O’Connor said that the move to the new campus adjacent to the IFSC gave the college “a wonderful opportunity to upgrade and future-proof our data LAN and telephone system and to ensure the most advanced IT infrastructure for our students.”

Esat BT was recently awarded Cisco Gold Partner Status and has specialist accreditations in IP telephony, voice access, security, network management and wireless.

Esat BT’s channel manager for connectivity solutions, John Corcoran, told siliconrepublic.com that the installation project took only two weeks to completion. He added that going forward NCI has the option of building on the present installation with various wireless ethernet concepts ranging from wireless data networking to wireless phone solutions for lecturers and administration staff.
