Social networking titan Facebook ended its third quarter with US$2.02bn in revenue, reflecting an increase of 60pc from US$1.26bn in the year-ago period, and an average of 728m daily active users for September 2013, a boost of 25pc year-over-year.
The company also reported third-quarter net income of US$425m, compared to a net loss of US$59m in the year-ago quarter.
Diluted earnings per share amounted to US$0.17, compared to a loss per share of US$0.02 in the third quarter of 2012.
Facebook’s revenue from advertising amounted to US$1.80bn, a 66pc increase from the same quarter last year, while mobile advertising revenue represented about 49pc of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2013.
Payments and other fees revenue for the same quarter totalled US$218m.
The number of Facebook’s monthly active users (MAUs) also increased, by 18pc year-over-year, to 1.19bn as of 30 September 2013.
Mobile MAUs totalled 874m for the third quarter, reflecting an increase of 45pc year-over-year.
Mobile daily active users (DAUs) were 507m, on average, for September 2013.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the strong results the company achieved in the third quarter show it’s prepared for its next phase, to bring “the next 5bn people online and into the knowledge economy”.
