Irish mobile fleet management technology player Fleetmatics has begun its expansion into mainland Europe, with the establishment of an operation in the Netherlands.
Fleetmatics’ technology has so far been adopted in the UK and Ireland, as well as North America and parts of Australia.
Fleetmatics has evolved to embrace smartphone and cloud-delivery technology and the information it provides fleet owners is invaluable in terms of how driver behaviour is influencing fuel costs, for example.
The company now has 20,000 customers worldwide – mainly in Ireland, the UK, and North America – and its technology is installed on more than 417,000 vehicles.
“Fleetmatics is proud to offer a new choice for the Dutch market as the company expands its European footprint,” said Jim Travers, Fleetmatics CEO and chairman of the board.
“Our expansion into the Netherlands will allow us to provide our innovative solutions to more businesses that choose to work smarter.”
The company also named its first Dutch client, courier business AM Koeriers.
“With the insight gained from tracking our vehicles, we were able to lower costs on fuel, maintenance and labour almost instantly,” said Rob Kroos, managing director of AM Koeriers.
Fleetmatics was founded just after the dot.com crash of 12 years ago. In October of last year, the company floated on the New York Stock Exchange at a share price of US$22.95, up from an expected US$17 that would have valued the company at US$585m.
