Consumers in Ireland and 23 other countries around the globe have voted Google and Sony jointly as their favourite brand, earning their trust, admiration and respect, according to the most recent Global Reputation Pulse Study.

Interestingly, this result came one month after Dublin-based consultancy Corporate Reputations found from its Ireland RepTrak 2010 study that Google was voted the most reputable company in Ireland.

Following on from Google and Sony (with Google technically winning by a hair’s breadth) the third most reputable brand was found to be Walt Disney, followed by BMW and Daimler/Mercedes-Benz.

Fanboy favourite Apple made it into the No 6 spot with Nokia still pleasing the public at No 7.

"Technology has a powerful grip on the global reputation rankings," says Dr Charles Fombrun, chairman of the Reputation Institute, who recently spoke in Dublin.

Intel came in at No 10, with Microsoft, Panasonic, Philips, IBM and HP coming in at Nos 11, 13, 15, 17 and 18 respectively.

"Companies like Google, Sony, Apple, Nokia, Intel and Microsoft have earned our trust and respect because they are all-pervasive solution providers that affect our daily lives.

"Disney’s global mind-share as an entertainment provider is remarkable, as is the admiration with which consumers hold auto-makers BMW and Daimler/Mercedes-Benz. They are power-houses of reputation-building around the world," he added.
