Guitar Hero frontman steps down

Dan Rosensweig, also a former executive at Yahoo!, has left his position as CEO of the Guitar Hero division at games company Blizzard to take on the CEO position of online academic textbook rental service Chegg.com.

As one of the best-selling game franchises to date, Guitar Hero was overseen by Rosensweig since March 2009 but sales have reportedly been waning last year for the games series that has been running since 2007.

Rosensweig, who was COO at Yahoo! until 2006, will oversee the fast-growing online rental service Chegg.com that mails textbooks to students, allows them to sell books back and plants a tree for every book rented, sold or bought through the site.

Eschewing the buzz around e-books and e-readers Rosensweig said: “The opportunity to lead one of Silicon Valley’s fastest growing companies that offers real financial value to students is unparalleled.

“Chegg.com has a powerful business model and, I believe, the opportunity to transform the textbook industry.”
