Less than a year after opening up its Irish base in Cork, Hortonworks has moved to an expanded premises on Albert Quay in the city centre.
In January this year, Cork joined the likes of Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney, London, Paris, Budapest and Seoul in Hortonworks’ international network. With early plans to hire 50 people, the growth has been such that the company has moved office this week.
Albert Quay will provide Hortonworks with a much larger working space, offering employees “the right environment to welcome a growing roster of partners and customers”, according to the company.
Hortonworks’ VP of global field marketing, John Kreisa, claimed Cork was an easy choice in reaching this position of added expansion.
“When we looked for a home to expand our international team, we wanted to find a location with easy access to the right talent that also gave our team members a high quality of life,” he said. “We have found this perfect balance in Cork.”
Situated near the Clarion Hotel in Cork City, Hortonworks’ new office will be home to technical support, sales and back office staff, with plans to expand into other areas of its operations in the future.
Hortonworks is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with a business model that is driving the adoption of Apache Hadoop, an enterprise-grade software for storing, analysing and managing large amounts of data. The move to new facilities in Cork shows that European interest has proved encouraging so far.
