Barely revealed for 48 hours, and already production of Apple iPad 2 models are projected to hit 3m units in Q1 of 2011 before stepping up to 10m to 12m units in Q2, suppliers in Taiwan have indicated in a new report.

iPad 2 shipments are expected to reach 2m to 3m in March, given the company scaled down production of the original iPad in February while ramping up production of the iPad 2 at the same time, Asian component suppliers told DigiTimes.

Apple, the report added, is on track to reach its target of producing 40m iPads this year.

Apple sold 15m iPads from April to December 2010, reaping US$9.5bn in revenue.
