iPad 3G retail availability date in US moves up

20 Apr 2010

Apple fans in the US who are itching to get their hands on the iPad 3G tablet computer have had their wait shortened: the device will be available in US retail stores on 30 April instead of 7 May.

Customers who pre-ordered the device will receive their iPads the same day.

Apple also said it will begin taking international pre-orders on May 10 for the iPad that’s now available in the US.

Last month, the company delayed its international launch of the product due to high demand state-side. Apple reported it delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week in early April.

“We have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May,” Apple said in a statement. “We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10.”
