The Midlands are to benefit from a jobs bonanza with 150 new jobs to be created in Athlone by US medical devices manufacturer Teleflex Medical.

The news will be a welcome development for the beleagured Midlands town which saw 165 job losses at Conor Medsystems in May followed by unextended unpaid leave for 100 employees of Eurotel.

The new jobs at Teleflex will be driven by the company’s decision to locate its European headquarters at IDA Ireland’s Garrycastle Technology Park

Teleflex designs, manufactures, and distributes specialty engineered products for a wide range of customers in commercial, medical, and aerospace industries. Worldwide the company employs over 20,000 people.

The 60 year-old company has annual revenues of US$2.5bn and has operations in 24 countries.
