Specialist mobile telecommunications firm Mformation Technologies is to establish a centre of technical excellence in Belfast, creating 162 software development jobs for graduates.

The centre of excellence will become a primary global engineering and technical services facility for the development of Mformation’s sophisticated device management solutions. Invest Northern Ireland has offered assistance totalling over €3m to support the project.

Mformation is a global leader in the provision of mobile device management software to many of the world’s leading wireless network operators including telecoms giants Vodafone, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Sprint Nextel and Telus.

Mformation’s technology helps increase demand for mobile data devices and services by improving the customer experience, streamlining the delivery of new data services applications as well as lowering costs for the operator.

“This announcement supports Northern Ireland’s track record as a world-class destination for mobile telecommunications investments,” commented Jenny Young, director Invest Northern Ireland.

“This centre of excellence will be of outstanding strategic value to Northern Ireland in terms of leveraging the significant engineering capabilities on offer as well as availing of an established pool of research specific to this sector. Such factors are vital to Mformation’s global competitiveness.

“Mformation’s decision to establish its centre in Belfast demonstrates once more how attractive Northern Ireland is as an investment destination for high-value activities such as this and it will deliver an estimated €7m per annum in wages and salaries into the local economy.”

“Northern Ireland offers us an outstanding location option for our growing company, particularly because of the region’s high-quality skills, recognised excellence for academic and industry-focused research and a compatible business and legal environment supporting the protection of intellectual property,” said Mark Edwards, CEO, Mformation.

“Specifically, this new facility will increase capability in our global engineering and product development functions and ensure that Mformation continues to provide the most advanced and diverse range of mobile device management solutions available in today’s global market.”
