More than 100 jobs at risk at Longford cable maker

More than 100 jobs are at risk at a Co Longford cable manufacturing company, it has emerged.

It was announced last night that the receiver appointed to B3 Cable in Co Longford intends to sell the company as a going concern.

Representatives from the trade union SIPTU are due to meet with the receiver later today to try to agree on a rescue plan for the company.

B3 Cable manufactures copper and optical fibre cable which is used in internet and other communications networks globally.

The international company has manufacturing bases in the UK and Spain, as well as in Ireland, and regional distribution centres and sales offices across Europe, the Middle East and Hong Kong.
