Dublin software company Openet is to invest €3.65m in a major R&D development programme which will result in the creation of 35 new high-value jobs over the next year.

The R&D investment by the Irish transaction processing and management firm is supported by the Government through Enterprise Ireland.

Openet employs 145 people in Ireland and the 35 new jobs are high-value positions, including program managers, engineers and senior software engineers. Recruitment for the positions is beginning immediately.

Global footprint growing fast

Making the announcement today, the Tanaiste Mary Coughlan TD said: “Openet is a scaling client of Enterprise Ireland’s, that is, the company has particular potential for rapid and steady growth to quickly achieve international scale and become a significant employer and global leader in their field.

“Ireland’s economic future is dependent upon sophisticated companies such as Openet achieving overseas success to secure jobs and growth at home. Openet’s international footprint is growing fast with operations in the US, Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paulo, the UK and Australia. This internationalisation is underpinned by the R&D being carried out in its Irish base,” she added.

“As a growing Dublin-based company, Openet is very familiar with the depth and breadth of local talent. We’re excited to be expanding our R&D operations in Dublin, which will assist Openet in quickly taking advantage of a number of new market opportunities based on our scalability and flexibility in handling ever-increasing volumes of real-time transactions,” said Openet CEO Niall Norton.

“The transaction processing and management Openet provides will only grow in importance as various network types and styles look to deliver new services, and our new hires will be crucial to fuelling our growth.”

Commercialising R&D

Enterprise Ireland’s head of scaling Greg Treston also welcomed today’s announcement: “Openet has a strong track record in commercialising its R&D. The company’s competitive edge against its bigger competitors is in its ability to provide its customer base with highly innovative and flexible products. It is this commitment to R&D and customer focus that has enabled the company to scale rapidly and become a significant international player in its sector.”

Openet provides event processing and transaction management solution to companies globally. Its clients include service providers such as BT, Orange, AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
