DSG International, the owner of the Dixons, Currys and PC World chains, has reported a record-breaking Christmas in its UK market, which saw it sell a computer and a TV every two seconds.
During the first week of its Christmas sale, DSG said each of its megastores in the UK saw more than £1 million in sales.
The group, which is one of the largest consumer electronics retailers in Europe, reported an 8pc increase in like-for-like sales during the 12-week period ended 9 January.
Overall, DSG reported a “good” performance across all categories and in all markets, but particularly in UK Electricals, Nordics, ecommerce and in Italy.
The group’s UK & Ireland Electricals division grew like-for-like sales over the Christmas period by 8pc.
DSG’s UK computing business benefitted from the launch of Windows 7, but overall sales were held back by the continuing weakness of the B2B market, the group said.
"Customer response to Christmas and the sale has been even better than we expected, with strong demand across all the categories and countries,” said DSG chief executive, John Browett.
“Looking forward, we expect 2010 to be tough across Europe and notably in the UK given the economic environment. However, we expect to continue to benefit from the self help of our Renewal & Transformation plan and continue to build solid foundations for future growth” he added.
