Alan Mulally, the CEO of Ford Motor Co who has recently been regarded as a frontrunner to replace Steve Ballmer as CEO of Microsoft, isn’t going anywhere until the end of 2014, according to the automaker’s director of the board.

Reports last week ranked Mulally and Microsoft executive Satya Nadella as the top contenders to take over the helm of Microsoft when Ballmer retires within the coming months.

Now Edsel Ford II, the director of Ford’s board of directors, has said Mulally “is staying through the end of 2014 and that’s all I know”, Bloomberg reported.

According to Business Insider, Mulally himself has said he loves serving Ford. “I have no change to the plan.”

The comments, however, should probably come as no surprise. Anyone who may be considering a position at another company will probably not trumpet that fact to the world, let alone the company that currently employs them.

“We view these comments as non-answers to the question and appear to us to be consistent with our view that he is in discussions with Microsoft’s board for the CEO slot at Microsoft,” Rick Sherlund of financial holding company Nomura told Business Insider.
