Randi Zuckerberg leaves Facebook to start own company

4 Aug 2011

Facebook’s director of marketing Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of founder Mark Zuckerberg, is leaving the social networking company to start her own business venture.

Randi’s new company, RtoZ Media, will focus on helping companies embrace social media. She had been working for Facebook since 2004.

“My goal is to launch my own innovative programming and work with media companies to develop their programming in new and more social ways,” Zuckerberg wrote in her resignation letter.

“In attacking this challenge, Facebook will clearly be a central element in all of my projects. I plan to demonstrate that ANYONE can do groundbreaking media work on the platform.”

Randi, who has been on maternity leave for the last three months, was recently nominated for an Emmy award in the category of live coverage of a current news event for her work on ‘Facebook Live’, a real-time news show she created and hosted for the company.
