Despite the fact that Siemens is to cut over 16,000 jobs worldwide as part of a restructuring, it emerged this morning that Cork is to benefit from 60 new jobs being created in the city by the company’s ICT division.
Siemens’ IT Services division is to create 60 new networking and technical positions on the back of opportunities in the Irish market and the availability of skilled, trained staff.
Siemens already employs more than 1,100 staff in Dublin, Cork and Belfast.
According to reports, the company said its Irish operations are delivering good value for money and there are major opportunities for the firm, particularly in the public sector.
In the past fortnight, Siemens president and chief executive Peter Löscher announced plans call for eliminating approximately 12,600 jobs at the company worldwide. An additional 4,150 jobs will be affected by restructuring projects.
The jobs news by Siemens is in addition to other jobs announcements this week by companies such as Mentor Graphics and ON Semiconductors, which are creating 35 jobs and 49 jobs in Limerick respectively.
