Triple play provider UPC said today that it has grown its broadband subscriber base in Ireland by an additional 26,000 subscribers bringing to 67,000 its total broadband subscriber base, or just under 10pc of the current broadband user base in Ireland.

The company reported this morning that in Ireland it achieved revenues of US$148.4m, up US$21.9m or 17.3pc on the six months ended 30 June.

UPC’s parent company Liberty Global reported revenues of US$2.1bn for the second quarter. The company reduced losses from US$184m a year ago to US$130m in the recent quarter.

In Ireland the company says that over 140,000 homes are now capable of availing of its phone service and it can offer all three triple play services – comprising broadband, phone and digital TV – from €50 per month.

UPC says it now has 655,900 revenue generating units (RGUs) of which 216,500 are digital cable subscribers and 2,700 are phone subscribers.

“Our second quarter of 2007 shows continued strong growth across all of our triple play residential products – namely digital TV, broadband internet and digital phone,” said UPC Ireland chief executive Robert Dunn.

“We are encouraged by the continuing strong take up of our high-speed services and have over 67,000 broadband subscribers adding a further 26,000 subscribers during the course of the year.”

Dunn said that digital TV numbers increased 18pc year on year and analogue is reducing in line with company expectations as customers migrate to its digital service. “We will be strengthening our digital TV product later in the month when we launch our digital video recorder service.

“We have successfully launched the third element in our triple play offering that is our digital phone service,” he continued.

“Great progress has been made to enable over 140,000 homes to avail of our phone service and we expect to grow this number to 400,000 by year end.

“Early results from the product release are extremely positive and we’re able to capitalise on providing all three triple play services from only €50 a month, a groundbreaking proposition,” Dunn added.
