One of the world’s largest speech tech firms SpinVox, which has struck major deals with Vodafone, Skype and Livejournal, is to create 41 jobs at its development centre in Donegal, siliconrepublic.com has learned.
SpinVox, the world’s largest private speech technology company, first set up operations in Gweedore in 2006.
It has brought together the two most popular methods of communication – voice and text – to create a new category of messaging called voice-to-content.
The company has embarked on a recruitment campaign and has already employed 20 new members of staff. It is hoping to recruit a further 21 in the coming months, bringing the total number employed by the company at the site to 71.
“The quality control and language experts that will be based there will play a key role in supporting the customers who use our voice-to-content services around the world,” said SpinVox co-founder and CEO, Christina Domecq.
SpinVox has already launched its service with Alltel, Cincinnati Bell, Sasktel, Rogers, Telus, Telstra, Vodacom South Africa, Vodafone Spain and Livejournal, and it has announced a deal with Skype.
At the heart of SpinVox is its Voice Message Conversion System (VMCS), which works by combining state-of-the-art speech technologies with a live-learning language process. VMCS is now being rolled out across five continents in English, French, Spanish and German – with a fifth language, Portuguese, under development.
“The expansion of SpinVox is an important signal to the public at large, particularly in the current economic climate, that enterprise promotion continues to be a priority for Údarás na Gaeltachta,” said Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Údarás na Gaeltachta’s chief executive.
”The Government has also signalled its continued commitment to enterprise promotion,” Ó hAoláin added.
