Irish car-share company GoCar has forged a partnership with SEAT that will see five Mii cars join the GoCar fleet in 2013. GoCar is also opening six new car spaces in Dublin City.

The service was first set up in 2008 in Cork and has been operating in Dublin City since 2010. Via GoCar, people can rent its cars by the hour on a pay-per-trip basis. Those who register with the service get a GoCard, which uses RFID technology to open and operate the cars.

The idea of GoCar is to give people more alternatives, especially when they don’t own a car or need access to a second car.

CEO Colm Brady said the SEAT Mii cars will be used as part of the company’s city car fleet.

GoCar has also opened six new car spaces in Dublin for people to collect its rental cars or to park them. The new car parking bases are in Clontarf, Sandymount, Donnybrook, Harold’s Cross and Miltown.

There are now 23 such GoCar parking spaces in the city, in addition to five in Cork.

Brady said the new car spaces are well serviced by public transport and cycle lanes. He said GoCar aims to be a viable addition to existing public transport links.
