Citroën is preparing to unveil its latest concept car, the Numéro 9, at the Beijing Motor Show in China later this month.

The DS is set to be launched in China in 2012, so Citroën has come up with the Numéro 9 concept car in tune with the China rollout.

In a statement released yesterday, Citroën said the concept would herald the future of the DS line, as well as signal the "styling cues" of the next three models in this line, namely a C-segment premium sedan, an SUV and a D-segment executive saloon.

Citroën said the front end of the concept has been designed for plug-in full-hybrid technology.

The Numéro 9 features "new-generation micro-hybrid technology" so its combustion engine (which runs on petrol or diesel, depending on the market) can switch to stand by when it’s not needed, said the automaker.

It said the electric motor on the rear axle of the car runs on lithium-ion batteries and can be recharged in less than 3.5 hours from a "normal domestic socket".

Citroën said the car would take 5.4 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/ph and 25.3 seconds to travel 1,000 metres from a standing start.

The concept was designed in Paris.
