Google has launched its annual art and design competition for Irish students called Doodle 4 Google. The theme this year is for students to come up with doodles on the theme ‘my invention’.
The winning doodle will grace the Google Ireland homepage Google.ie for a day in April 2013.
Google said today the student who wins the competition will get a €5,000 scholarship to go towards his or her college studies. The winning teacher and student will also each get a Chromebook laptop, while their school will receive a €10,000 technology grant. In addition, the five class group winners and their teachers will receive Chromebooks.
Class group 1 includes junior infants to senior infants, while class group 2 includes 1st class to 2nd class and class group 3 is for students from 3rd to 6th class.
For students at second level, class group 4 covers 1st year to 3rd year, while class group 5 covers transition year up to 6th year.
Doodle entries from students will be whittled down to 75 creations that will appear on the Doodle 4 Google website before the top 5 doodles are chosen, as well as the overall winner, by a judging panel.
Last year’s winner is Patrick Horan from St Munchin’s College in Limerick. He said winning the competition helped him qualify for art college.
“On top of that, my school was able to buy brand new interactive white boards for the classrooms, new laptops for the art department, as well as innovative graphics tablets,” added Horan.
The deadline for entries to Doodle 4 Google is 10 December 2012.
