Schools themselves need to focus on a digital strategy to make sure that their teachers are engaged and that they are using the technology on a daily basis and make it part of what they do.

What I would really hope is that we continue to invest in the ICT hardware because we’ve really only started this journey – what has gone in is the absolute minimum to develop the infrastructure.

If we look at the Smart Schools = Smart Economy report, we’re looking in the next year to have five learning laptops per classroom, along with the teaching laptop, and getting that is going to be very important.

It would be a shame if we don’t continue what is potentially one of the best investments in this area that has taken place in Ireland. We can’t lose sight of the fact that we are playing catch-up with neighbours and other countries around the world. Investing in this is vital to our future.
