In terms of robotic acting, a few big-name Hollywood stars, not to mention the Star Wars prequels, spring to mind, while stage acting is normally the reserve of well-crafted, intense and powerful performances. Until now.

Android ”Gemenoid F’ has taken to the stage circuit in Japan in a play titled ‘Sayonara’, in which her character, conveniently enough a robot caretaker, reads poetry to a terminally ill woman.

Displaying a wide range of electronic emotions, Gemenoid F is controlled during the play from backstage through a series of wires that are hidden during the performance while she interacts with her human counterpart.

Gemenoid F was presented to the media on Wednesday ahead of a two-day Tokyo arts festival.
